Class Description:
Are you ready to climb Mount Olympus?
Learn about the Hero’s Journey, discover the qualities of a true hero, and find the writer within yourself!
Greek mythology influenced so much of western storytelling and culture. So much in our modern literature and even science and technology allude to Greek Gods, Heroes, or Monsters.
Throughout this class we will read the Percy Jackson series, learn about Greek Myths, give presentations, share about our own learning, practice writing our thoughts, gain a foundation in grammar, and place our feet on the path to becoming heroes. There will be a little bit of optional homework each week, and we will be reading 4 - 5 chapters of a book (at home) per week.
This is a two semester class. We will read roughly one book per month. Students should bring the book we are reading to class with them each week so that we can discuss the chapters for that week. Ideally each student will have their own copy of the book that they can take notes in, but a shared copy is acceptable and notes can be taken in a notebook or on sticky notes, instead. Some sticky notes and a commonplace book or journal will be provided.
Students should acquire their own set of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books.
Also suggested but not required: D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths
